GLOSSARY
HOSOMAKI // This roll is a traditional Japanese sushi-style that consists of a thin cylindrical shape, typically wrapped in a single sheet of nori. The word "hoso" translates to "thin," while "maki" means "roll." This type of sushi is known for its simplicity, delicate flavors, and six bite-sized portions.
URAMAKI // Unlike traditional sushi rolls where the nori is on the outside, uramaki has the rice on the outside, and the nori is tucked inside. The term "ura" translates to "reverse" or "inside-out," referring to this unique characteristic.
NIGIRI // The word "nigiri" translates to "hand-pressed," which accurately describes the way this type of sushi is crafted. Nigiri consists of a small mound of sushi rice topped with a slice of fresh seafood or other ingredients.
SASHIMI // It is highly regarded for its simplicity, purity, and focus on the natural flavors and textures of the ingredients. The word "sashimi" translates to "pierced body," referring to the ancient practice of spearing fish and slicing it into delicate pieces.
